Call Maker - Daybreak Turkey Calls

I made my first turkey call in 2004. It was entirely experimental. I had never touched a wood turning lathe until I bought a used one to attempt to make turkey calls. In 2005, I sent calls to 5 distinguished call makers and collectors around the nation asking them to critique my work. I told them if I could not achieve anything more than mediocrity I would quit making calls since there were plenty of mediocre calls already on the market. One of those men suggested I enter the Grand National Call Making Competition sponsored by the National Wild Turkey Federation at their annual convention each February. The NWTF boasts 550,000 members and has 40,000 people attend their annual convention where over 1000 calls are routinely entered in the Call Making Competition. I entered for the first time in 2006 and won Best in Show and was given the D. D. Adams Award as the Friction Call Maker of the Year.

From 2006 through 2009 Daybreak Turkey Calls have competed in the Grand Nationals each year and never failed to take a ribbon in one of the three categories I compete in. Daybreak Calls have also been entered in the NWTF Midwest Call Makers Competition in Madison, Wisconsin, the Georgia Open in Atlanta and the Southeast Open Call Making Competition in Raleigh, NC. Daybreak Calls have taken either a first, second or third place in every competition they have ever competed in.

The last two years have yielded opportunities for me to hunt 7 different states in which I have been fortunate to bag 9 birds (3 Merriam’s and 6 Easterns) and call birds to gun for 7 other hunters.
